Swim Programs

At Atlantis School of Swim Inc. we care about the quality of the programs we offer. We are proud that as partners with Red Cross and the LifeSaving Society, we can offer children and their families swim programs that increase their health and safety.

Atlantis School of Swim Inc. is now offering the new Red Cross Swim Programs.  The program was piloted in the summer of 2005 with excellent feedback from Students, Parents and Instructors. The Canadian Red Cross has been a leader in Swimming and Water Safety for close to 60 years and continues to renew and refine its learn-to-swim program to meet the growing needs of Canadians.

What’s great about these new programs?
The new programs respond to the needs of today’s parents as identified by the Red Cross in national market research conducted by Ipsos-Reid in 2003.  This research revealed that parents:

  • Want their children to have knowledge that will help keep them safe around the water;
  • Believe that learning to swim is one of the most important skills they can give their children, and
  • Swimming lessons are an excellent opportunity to increase their children’s physical activity.

Through Red Cross Swim we continue to offer a program that is based on research, the highest standards of injury prevention methodology, and proven learn-to-swim progressions.

Red Cross Swim Preschool is a new seven-level program with engaging animal themes for children up to 5 years of age. As a parent or caregiver you have the opportunity to participate in this exciting program with your children. The lessons are designed for small class sizes so preschoolers can fully enjoy their time with the Instructor and other children.

Red Cross Swim Kids for children six years and older will replace AquaQuest with a fresh approach to swimming and water safety education. The 10 levels will challenge those who took a preschool program, but will also provide a starting point for children with limited swimming experience.

Both programs have three core areas:

Swimming:  Effectively building strokes through progressions to make it easier for the swimmer to master each step.

Fitness Activities: The program places a greater emphasis on fitness by using kicking drills, water sports, etc. New skills are introduced with a focus on encouraging increased physical activity and lifelong fitness.

Skills & Water Safety: water safety content, based on Red Cross drowning research, is designed to be appropriate for each age group and is actively taught.

Recognizing Your Child’s Achievement
Red Cross has introduced new tools to recognize the achievement of each child:
Red Cross Swim Preschool acknowledges participation and skill development with a sticker depicting the mascot of the completed level. A booklet is also provided to track participant’s progression through the levels.
Red Cross Swim program recognition includes:

  • Completion of each level is recognized by a unique badge.
  • Completion of all 10 levels of the program is awarded with the Red Cross Swim Kids certificate and/or medal.
